IMPORTANCE OF INTRODUCING ACTIVE LEARNING IN EDUCATION

Education is the weapon to lead the life successfully in this competitive world.
Education is an essential tool to construct the young minds.
What is Active Learning?
Active learning is the significant measure which fosters unique learning process in Education.
Active learning focuses on students how they learn, not just on what they learn. It encourages the student's thinking skill instead passively receiving information from the teachers.
A good teacher should help the child to think and develop their skills instead of teaching them to follow the teacher's own ideas and instructions.
There are several active learning strategies like Role play, Flip class, Gaming, Peer teaching, Group discussion, Debate etc. develops skills to analyze, evaluate and synthesis ideas of learners
Skilled teachers should assess the learner's performance using rich assessment tools. One of the effective tools is Assessment for learning (AFL). Assessment of learning is used to evaluate the learners about what they learnt but AFL evaluates and encourages the learning through Assessment.
In active learning, learning objective is more important than task. Teachers should ask questions to initiate and activate the thinking skills. They should ask open ended questions and it should develop the ability of learners' thinking skill where closed questions won't encourage much.

Who wrote war and peace?
Which is green city of India?
The above questions are knowledge based and closed which don't support much on thinking skills.
Is Leo Tolstoy's 'war and peace' novel or poem? How?
Why does Bangalore called as Garden city of India?
The above questions are skill based and open ended which uplifts the active learning. Learning happens mainly through social interaction within or outside the classroom environment.
