EDUCATION WITH VALUES AND VIRTUES MAKES A PERFECT CITIZEN
Education makes a perfect student; Education with values and virtues makes a perfect man. Education with values and virtues helps the students to become more and more responsible, sensible and flexible citizens of a nation. Jawaharlal Nehru, our first Prime Minister of India says, “The Children of today make the India of tomorrow.” Educating young buds with values and virtues make them to learn the philosophy of life. Tamil proverbs, 'Ilamayil kal', 'Aindhil valayadadu Aimbadil valayadu' say very clearly that the process of learning to be done in tender stage. That is why children in schools are taught various subjects and activities in their learning process at their young stage. Along with the academics teaching of values of life, discipline and culture gives harmonious development in children. As an educator for more than 25 years personally I have seen students who complete their school education by adapting moral values and discipline have achieved their goal with great success. The story behind 'Panchatantra' gives us the message of learning moral values. There was a King Amarshakhi had three sons named Bahushakthi, Ugrashakthi and Anantshakthi. The King Amarshakti was proficient in his knowledge and wisdom but his sons were very lazy and had an inability to learn anything. The king was helpless and worried. A wise old man who had been a teacher, Vishnu Sharma came forward and took the task of educating those three princes. Vishnu Sharma found a creative way of teaching. He composed many attracting and captivity animal stories with moral values and tied them in five parts. It was named as 'Pancha Thantras'. After learning these moral stories in their young age, the three princes became highly knowledgeable and they had been great administrators. The students who grow up with moral values have the virtues of honesty, trustworthiness, patience, kindness, courage etc. Hence, values and virtues are the building blocks of students. The more he learns values the more he gains respect from everyone around him.
